Police are now investigating whether a driver involved in the I-70 death of Excelsior Springs High School student Gabe Mills was impaired by alcohol.

Mills was headed to a drive-in movie July 17 when his vehicle was struck from behind. When Mills exited the car to check on his passenger, girlfriend Marisa Bronson, he was struck by a third vehicle and killed. Police are now investigating the possibility that alcohol might have been a factor in his death.

Mills’s family learned over the weekend that the driver of the third vehicle might have been under the influence of alcohol. Parents Stephanie and Jeffry Mills said police have arrested the individual, but are awaiting test results before the case can be reviewed by a prosecutor.

Mills’ funeral services were held on Saturday, July 24 at Crescent Lake Christian Center. The following day, on Sunday, a candlelight vigil was held at ESHS Tiger Stadium. Mills played football and tennis for the Tigers and would’ve been a senior this fall.
