A last minute gift for Mother’s Day or a special trip with mom could be in store for anyone who loves inexpensive plant shopping. This Saturday, May 7from 8 a.m. to noon the Excelsior Springs Garden Club will host its annual plant sale in the parking lot of Tiger Bowl, 1729 W. Jesse James Road.

For the past several years the club has hosted the plant sale each Mother’s Day weekend and offers a large variety of perennials, annuals, shrubs, herbs, houseplants and garden décor at very moderate prices. Club members cultivate the plants throughout the year then sell their hard work at bargain prices to raise money for the club’s many projects, including the group’s “Giving Project” hosted during the holiday season.

Following the plant sale on Monday, May 9 at 7 p.m. the Garden Club will host its monthly meeting at the Community Center, 112 S. Thompson Ave. in downtown Excelsior Springs. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and will include guest speaker Brent Bishop of the Excelsior Springs Public Works Department. Bishop wil speak about the city’s recycling service.

After the program, members will enjoy light snacks followed by a meeting, which will include discussion and evaluation about the plant sale. The Garden Club is open to the public, anyone interested in learning more can call 816-630-2703 for more information or visit the group’s Facebook page.
