Warmth for the taking

December 8, 2016 – Temperatures have fallen and blustery winds seem to have blown the giving spirit into Excelsior Springs.

Drivers crossing Isley Bridge on the east side of town may have noticed something out of the ordinary.

Tied to the bridge rails were 30 articles of warm clothing – mostly scarves, but also some brightly colored knitted hats – looking for new homes.

Attached to the winter accessories were notes that  said “I’m a gift! Take me if you need a warm hug.”

The concept is not a new one. Many individuals and organizations all over the world have tied scarves around trees and along railings, but the holiday practice is new to Excelsior Springs.
