Larry Hoffman

Larry V. Hoffman, 77, died July 6, 2015, at his home in Excelsior Springs.

He was born Oct. 19, 1937, in Richardson County, Neb., to Rosena Kappelman Hoffman and Simon Louis Hoffman. Larry taught high school mathematics for 33 years in the Lawson and North Kansas City school districts. He worked as a volunteer at the Good Samaritan Center of Excelsior Springs and tax preparer for AARP. He also built houses for Habitat for Humanity and served on its family selection committee for a number of years.

He leaves behind his wife of nearly 52 years, Jane; their sons, Brad (Kelli) and Mike (Rechelle); six grandchildren, Ryan, Ian, Adam, Jake, Aaron and Mackenzie; and sister, Jann Spencer (Bill). He also leaves 10 nieces and nephews and a slew of friends.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1945, his mother in 1987 and his brother, Ron, in 2007.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9, at First United Methodist Church, 1650 Rainbow Blvd., Excelsior Springs, Mo., immediately followed by a memorial service, also at the church. Arrangements are through Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, 816-630-3131.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the “Lizzie Fund” / United Methodist Church, in support of Lizzie Kanonuhwa, adopted daughter of the church family from Harare, Zimbabwe.
