This weekend, June 11-12, is the Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Free Fishing Days. During Free Fishing Days, anyone may fish without having to buy a fishing permit, though normal regulations remain in effect, such as limits on size and number of fish an angler may keep.

To join in on the fun of Free Fishing Days, the Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation Department will host its annual free Youth Fishing Day packed with fun at Century Park’s Powell Lake. This Saturday, June 11 from 8:30-11:30 a.m., adults are encouraged to bring their children to learn the joys of fishing at the lake.

To add to the fun, parks and recreation will provide free hot dogs, fishing giveaways and a drawing for special prizes. Adults should bring fishing poles and lawn chairs. Worms will be provided while supplies last.

Powell Lake is located at Century Park, on the corner of Tiger Drive and Wornall Road near Excelsior Springs High School.
