James Ross Holman, 83, Rockaway Beach, Mo. (formerly of Excelsior Springs, Mo.), passed away Friday, July 31, 2015, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron, Mo.

Jim, known to friends as “Hot Rod Holman,” was born July 24, 1932, in Lawson, Mo., the son of Howard and Edna (Clevenger) Holman.

He was united in marriage to Ruby Nadine Creason on June 13, 1953, in Liberty, Mo.

Jim was a masonry contractor for over 40 years before retiring. He and his wife traveled many winters to Florida, making many friends along the way. He loved his family & friends, fishing, the KC Royals and “hot-rodding” on his Harley Davidson.

He entered the U.S. Army at Fort Riley, Kan., and served eight years in the military before being honorably discharged in 1960.

In addition to his parents, his wife, Ruby N. Holman, preceded him in death on Sept. 11, 2001.

Survivors include Paula (Curtis) Keen of Excelsior Springs, Linda (Jerry) Markley of Lexington, Debbie (Bob) West of Excelsior Springs; Rick (Cathie) Holman of Excelsior Springs, and Tammy (Mark) Reeves of Sanford, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his loving sister, Anna Louise Maddux, of Elmira, Mo.

A heartfelt thanks is given to the staff of Cameron Missouri Veterans Home and Comfort Care Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, Mo., with the Rev. Phil Riley officiating. Visitation will precede services at 12:30 p.m. Burial at Old Union Cemetery, Lawson, Mo. Arrangements are through Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, 816-630-3131.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to Cameron Veterans Home Assistance League, 1111 Euclid Ave., Cameron, MO 64429.
