A pursuit ensued Sunday, April 17 around 7:50 p.m. when a vehicle registered to a party with a local arrest warrant failed to stop for Excelsior Springs Police officers.
Officers attempted to stop Travis J. Huffman, 41-years-old, at the intersection of Broadway and Kansas City avenues in downtown Excelsior Springs. Huffman failed to stop and the pursuit traveled westward across town when the vehicle left the city westbound on Tracy Avenue towards Old Quarry Road. ESPD Captain Clint Reno said ultimately, Huffman stopped his vehicle on Watkins Road about one mile east of Old Quarry Road.
“The driver abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot a short distance then stopped,” said Reno. The Clay County Sheriff’s Department who had responded to the area to assist then took Huffman into custody; he was then released to ESPD.
Huffman was arrested on a local failure to appear warrant and was charged with multiple traffic violations stemming from the pursuit including eluding, leaving the scene of an accident, no insurance, speeding, stop sign violations and turn signal violations.
According to Reno, Huffman is currently being held on bond and additional, illegal narcotics charges are pending.
