STUCO Gold Award 2016

STUCO Gold Award 2016

An application submitted by the Excelsior Springs High School Student Council (STUCO) to the Honor Council Committee of the Missouri Association of Student (MASC) Councils got the ball rolling and landed the hard working group with the MASC Gold Award.

ESHS STUCO Advisor Sheri Whitt said this year’s student council group is a very deserving bunch of hard working students who have worked diligently in every task taken on during the 2015-16 school year. “In addition to their normal Homecoming and Courtwarming activities, they have organized many other events throughout the year to benefit their school and community,” Whitt explained of the many student-organized events spearheaded by STUCO. The group has helped to organize a Veteran’s Day Assembly at the high school’s Performing Arts Center and also helped to serve at this year’s Veteran’s Dinner. STUCO adopts a family each Christmas season, visits local nursing homes during the holidays and delivers thoughtful cards at Christmas, but that’s just the beginning. STUCO members also help to raise money for Special Olympics by taking part in the Polar Plunge and always participate in Teacher Appreciation Week, just to name a few of the many activities students are involved in.

The long list of student led activities and positive contributions to the school district along with the advisorship of Whitt and STUCO co-advisor Erika Dobbins is what helped play a large part in MASC’s decision in honoring ESHS students with Gold Award status.

“This is a great group of talented students whose goal is to keep doing more to unite the school and community,” added Whitt. “We at ESHS are very proud of their efforts.”
