It’s been just over a week since Excelsior Springs High School student Greg Murphy, the son of Jim and Angie Murphy, was involved in a serious all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident on Monday, Feb. 15. Since his accident, Murphy has undergone surgery at Children’s Mercy to help repair his spine, which was fractured in two places. Murphy was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

To help the Murphy family in their time of need a family-friendly “Comedy City Improv Show” will be hosted by the Kearney First Christian Church Youth Group at the Performing Arts Center of ESHS. The show will take place on Saturday, March 5; the suggested ticket price is a free-will donation of $10.

To help bring in additional funds to help the family in their time of need, the group is also planning a silent auction, raffle and bake sale that will take place prior to the comedy show. Ronda Edwards, a friend of the Murphy family and spokesperson for the fundraiser, said the group of volunteers would like to be able to help relieve some of the financial burden the family is facing during the long road to recovery ahead of them.

The silent auction, bake sale and raffle will take place at ESHS from 6-6:45 p.m. prior to the start of the comedy show at 7 p.m. Edwards said the group is still in need of donations for the auction and bake sale and anyone interested in donating could contact her by calling or texting at 816-616-0924 or by emailing at edwardsfarm6@gmail.com.
