March 2, 2018 – Repeating its popular summer program, the City of Excelsior Springs will once again offer sewer credits to residents who sign up between now and June 8.
Annually, this program assists residents who increase their water usage in the summer months to water lawns, wash cars or fill pools. This water does not return through the city’s sewer lines, so the city offers the discount in the resident’s sewer bill for those months.
Director of Administrative Services Steve Marriott said that last year, 366 accounts enrolled in the program. He then explained the program in detail.
First, only residential customers are eligible. The program does not extend to commercial businesses, industrial customers or to apartments. Next, the city will average the sewer usage of January, February and March of this year to create the base use for summer usage. The rate discount will apply only to the billings generated during the months of July, August and September 2018.
During the summer months, sewer consumption will be compared to the winter quarter average. If consumption is greater than the average, the average consumption will be billed. If monthly consumption is less than the winter quarter average, the actual consumption will be billed, Marriott said.
No credits will actually appear on the bill, only a reduced charge calculation as identified above, Marriott explained.
Residents must apply with the city to be considered for the summer sewer credit and can do so at the finance office in the Hall of Waters, 201 E. Broadway Ave., between now and June 8. To be eligible, residents must be current with all taxes, utilities and fees.
