The Excelsior Springs Standard posted a social media message heralding the upcoming annual event to which all residents look forward:
The opening of the Dari-B.
On March 1, come sunshine or rain, heatwave or snow storm, the Dari-B cleans off its ice cream scoopers and readies its cash registers for the massive influx of Excelsior Springs residents who haven’t had their favorite sweet treat since the annual closing on Halloween.
We asked for some stories, and residents relayed their favorite Dari-B memories. Friendship, family traditions, and celebrations were recounted. Excelsior Springs citizens began to tag each other and make plans to get ice cream together. People who no longer live here but remember the Dari-B with fondness jokingly asked others to eat a twist cone for them, and other residents gladly volunteered as tribute. It was a rare moment on the internet, where no one fought or became negative, but instead, celebrated a beloved tradition as they shared memories and made future plans.
But one local couple took the cake – or is it cone? – with their favorite Dari-B memory. Sara and Zach Wierzbicki included Dari-B in their wedding reception.
“It was a must when we talked with our photographer about pictures we wanted after the ceremony,” Sara explained, but there wasn’t much explanation needed. After all, anyone who included Dari-B and ice cream in their wedding is speaking a language all of Excelsior can understand.
The Dari-B opened on March 1, to long lines and eager customers. It will remain open, as tradition dictates, until October 31.
